School Renovation

Originally, Burma Relief had big plans for the New Blood School in Maesot, Thailand on Burma’s border: building a new two-story complex with computers and solar panels to provide power for all of the school’s electrical needs. But, due to a lack of funds, we were only able to finish minor renovations. The work fell short of what we had hoped to achieve for the 450 students, but it’s better – and safer – than nothing

School Renovation - Wood Pillars Reinforced

Our people did their best to reinforce the wood pillars that are propping up the school. We provided a new thatched roof to keep the rain out (it’s monsoon season), and we repaired dangerous holes in the floor to keep the kids from falling through. As you can see from the photos, we desperately need to replace the old wooden walls to protect the students from heavy rains. It will cost $1,500 to install waterproof walls that will allow the kids to learn in a safe and dry environment. We’d also like to erect a soundproof wall to separate the one-room school so that two different classes can meet simultaneously.

We have a long way to go…and anything you can do to help is greatly appreciated.

Girls Dormitory

It wasn't easy, but it's a job well done. Unfortunately, there many others waiting to get started.

Burma Relief has just finished building our first dormitory for 60 orphaned Burmese refugee girls in MaeSot, Thailand on Burma's border. It was a race to provide a safe haven that these vulnerable youngsters can call home before they're snatched off the street as soon as they cross the border and get sold as sex slaves.

New Dormitory in MaeSot

But the battle has been only partially won as the dormitory lacks the basic needs that you and I take for granted: the building has no electricity, which means no schoolwork and no security lighting after dark (this time of year the sun sets at about 6:30pm).

We need just two 130-watt solar panels to power the dorm. It will cost just $3,570, which includes the panels, charge controller, battery, inverter, wires and installation. Every day, our organization hustles for pennies to help give these kids a better life with opportunities for a brighter future. We need help y'all...so if there happens to be an angel out there reading this, we'd be forever grateful if you could assist us. We're trying, Lord knows, but we need help. I have great people around me – resources and manpower – but financial support is needed to bring our good intentions to life. We struggled to get the finishing funds to put a roof over these girls' heads. Please consider making a donation to help us give them a few small things that will make a REAL difference in their lives.

Regards,

Jeremy
